On April 5th 1968, James Brown's concert at the Boston Gardens was broadcast live by WGBH Boston. The concert took place less than 24 hours after the assassination of Martin Luther King. Tensions were running high and it took the intervention of Boston's Mayor to ensure that the concert went ahead. The emotion and conflict of the time was mirrored in James Brown's electrifying and emotional performance, which to this day many consider to be his finest hour. The quality of the original broadcast footage is raw and dated yet the energy and funkiness of the music can never be questioned. This also includes the very best of the live James Brown broadcasts throughout the States, contrasting the swagger of the young James Brown in the mid sixties, with the now legendary Godfather Of Soul.
