Box set containing six Western movies starring John Wayne. In 'The Alamo' (1960), a group of 187 Americans, led by Colonels William Travis (Laurence Harvey), Davey Crockett (Wayne) and Jim Bowie (Richard Widmark) battle to hold off Santa Anna's army of 7,000. In 'Red River' (1948), Tom Dunson (Wayne) and his adopted son (Montgomery Clift) lead the cattle train which establishes the Chisholm Trail. However, father and son argue when it comes to bringing law and order to the Wild West: Tom is tied to an authoritarian approach, whilst his son favours a more liberal stance, refusing to resort to the law of the gun. In 'The Horse Soldiers' (1959), Wayne plays hardbitten Union Cavalry Colonel Marlowe, who teams up with a pacifist doctor (William Holden) in this Civil War western directed by John Ford. Together with a feisty Southern belle (Constance Towers), the pair lead a cavalry patrol on a mission 300 miles into Confederate territory, in an attempt to destroy a railroad junction and choke off vital supply lines. 'North to Alaska' (1960) stars Wayne and Stewart Granger as rough and tumble gold prospectors in Alaska. When Sam McCord (Wayne) and George Pratt (Granger) eventually strike it rich in the gold rush, George sends Sam to Seattle to fetch his fiancée; but Sam falls in love with her. George eventually accepts his loss and sets about finding a new gal, but only seems to find trouble. In 'The Comancheros' (1961), Wayne stars as Texas Ranger Jake Cutter whose path crosses with that of professional gambler Paul Regret (Stuart Whitman). The two become uneasy bedfellows in their quest to crush a powerful outlaw gang who are selling arms and alcohol to the local Indians. In 'The Undefeated' (1969), in the aftermath of the American Civil War, Confederate Colonel James Langdon (Rock Hudson) prepares to travel to Mexico with his family. When they are attacked by bandits, it is Union Colonel J.H. Thomas (Wayne) who comes to their aid. The former enemies find themselves united in their efforts to resist Mexican Emperor Maximillian, and Juarez, the rebel leader. When the rebels kidnap the Southerners, Colonel Thomas must decide whether to surrender his valuable herd of 3,000 horses and secure their release, or leave them to their fate.
