Biographical drama based on the life of German artist Kthe Kollwitz (Jutta Wachowiak). In 1914, Kthe's youngest son Peter signed up to join the German army but was killed in the line of duty just two weeks later. After suffering the tragic loss of her son, Kthe fell in to depression, creating a monument in memory of her son and all the other soldier's who lost their lives. Noticably changing her outlook on both her life and her work, Kthe began actively campaigning against the Nazis and, as a result, was forced out of the Academy of Arts and labelled 'degenerate'.
