Regina King directs this drama inspired by real events. On the night of 25th February 1964, Cassius Clay (Eli Goree) emerges victorious after defeating Sonny Liston at Miami Beach to be crowned Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World. As segregation laws prevent him from celebrating publicly, he and his friends - Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge) and Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) - spend their evening in a motel in an African American neighbourhood. As the three discuss their lives and accomplishments they all agree that the world should be celebrating with them and so set out a plan to move forward the idea of racial equality.
