Description

The grim brutality of medieval times is brought to life in this latest release from Starbreeze - an action adventure set in said era, with a gruesomely realised sword-based combat system at its core.

As the story has it, a rather sinister bishop, fallen from grace and serving the forces of darkness, has abducted the beautiful and mysterious Adelle, whose divine powers he plans to use in order to unlock a gateway to hell. You take on the role of Paul, a young, newly initiated Templar who, in typical fashion, just so happens to be the one and only saviour, and so must therefore grab his trusty sword and embark on a quest to prevent the beastly bishop from destroying the world, etc.

This crusade takes you on a violent, combat-filled adventure, all the way through medieval Europe and the Holy Land, pitting you against relentless hordes of demons, and charging you with the arduous task of uncovering an ancient holy relic that holds the power to thwart the evil plans of the bishop.

The main emphasis throughout Knights of the Temple is the actual combat itself as, aside from the usual bout of exploration, collecting things and unlocking doors, it's pretty much all you do. And this is both harsh and realistic, with the full violent art of swordplay recreated in gory detail thanks to extremely fluent animation and over 160 different moves. As well as the standard issue sword (which incidentally can be upgraded along the way) you also get to lay your hand on the full range of chivalric arms, including the likes of maces, axes and shields, as well as switch to a first-person archery attack mode.
