Albert William Lee is an English guitarist known for his fingerstyle and hybrid picking technique. Lee has worked, both in the studio and on tour, with many famous musicians from a wide range of genres. He has also maintained a solo career and is a noted composer and musical director. CD1 was originally a German release with a collection of late-'60s material from Albert Lee's groups Black Claw and Country Fever. This release finally sheds some light on this era in Albert's history. As the Black Claw and Country Fever sessions have always been shrouded by apocrypha and mystery. 'Green Bullfrog' was an album resulting from a one-off studio project and recorded between February and May 1970. The album was the idea of producer Derek Lawrence who assembled a group of musicians with whom he had worked in the 1960s.
'Bullfrog' is a slice of instrumental Purple, which Purple had originally performed for the BBC Studio Sessions.
A lot has been written about who appeared on the 'Green Bullfrog' album - particularly which members of Deep Purple played. This CD not only gives the definitive answers, but presents a fabulous re-mastering, the original mixes AND adds extra tracks. While 'Louisiana Man' is southern blues at its best, there's funk in there too, a little country, more blues and even some (admittedly heavy) pop leanings in 'Makin' Time' to mention a few of the tracks.
