This book is part of a series which open young children's eyes to the natural world around them. Each book studies one of the four main habitats, and with artwork and easy-to-understand text, looks at how animals, fish, insects, plants and birds live there.;In this book two children decide to plant a small tree in the wood. They plant it in a glade surrounded by tall, fully grown trees, and lilies, ferns and daisies. Lots of animals live in the wood. Some of them eat plants and some eat other animals. There are birds and insects too, all with their own place to live and their own favourite foods.;At the back of the book is a section for teachers and parents which includes notes on how to use the book with pre-readers and first readers, and suggested discussion points which relate specifically to the illustrations.;Roger Coote has written a number of other Firefly titles, including those in the "My World" and "Journeys" series.
