This work is intended as a practical introduction for students of psychology and the caring professions to the theories of developmental psychology and how these theories can be applied in everyday life and remedial situations. Application of theory follows each theoretical focus. Remedial processes are outlined and examined; these range from those requiring professionally-skilled help to those which individuals can apply to themselves to promote confidence and well-being. A number of approaches are examined, including psychanalytic, behaviourist, humanistic, transpersonal, cognitive, developmental and social psychological. Exercises and discussion suggestions are included.
