Television movie adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel. With chaplain Mr March away in the American Civil War, his wife and daughters must learn to cope without him, dealing with poverty, hardship and all the usual sibling rivalries. Eldest daughter Meg (Meredith Baxter) finds love, while the studious Jo (Susan Dey) embarks on a writing career. Although Amy (Ann Dusenberry), the youngest, is pretentious and vain, gentle middle child Beth (Eve Plumb) is always able to bind the sisters together in times of strife.
