Britain's most successful comedy writing partnership, the legendary Ray Galton and Alan Simpson were justly-famed for their long-running sitcoms Hancock's Half Hour and Steptoe and Son - but they were just as strong writing single plays. Comprising seven individual comedies, The Galton & Simpson Playhouse allowed them to enjoy the flexibility of one-off stories featuring a wide variety of new characters and storylines. As such it attracted the cream of comedy actors from 1970s television, including Arthur Lowe, Richard Briers, Roy Kinnear, John Bird, Frances de la Tour, Leonard Rossiter, Patricia Hayes and Warren Mitchell.
