After parting ways with David Vincent in 1996, Morbid Angel's future looked unclear - but 'Formulas Fatal To The Flesh', the band's first album with vocalist/bassist Steve Tucker, was a stunning return to form, heralding the start of the band's celebrated second era. Taking the band's ferocious death metal sound in a more surreal, psychedelic direction, the album remains one of the most unique and adventurous in the band's discography. Songs like 'Prayer Of Hatred' deliver all the brutal blasting you'd expect from Morbid Angel, but elsewhere songs like the almost ten minute long 'Invocation Of The Continual One' found the trio of Tucker, guitarist Trey Azagthoth and drummer Pete Sandoval pushing past death metal cliches into even more atmospheric and bizarre territory.
