Drama based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Edward St Aubyn about a family who struggle to cope when they are faced with losing their beloved summer home. When dying stroke victim Eleanor (Margaret Tyzack) decides to leave her house to shady Irishman Seamus (Adrian Dunbar) for the purpose of a New Age institute, instead of her son, Patrick (Jack Davenport), the family suffers a meltdown. Patrick feels betrayed and is driven to alcohol, as well as an extramarital affair. As his mother's condition worsens, can Patrick overcome his anger and make amends before it is too late?
