Collection of three films based on iconic American best-sellers. In 'The Accidental Tourist' (1988), the ordered life of travel writer Macon Leary (William Hurt) is shattered by the death of his son. His wife, Sarah (Kathleen Turner), walks out on him, and after breaking his leg Macon is forced to move in with his eccentric sister and brothers. An awkward romance ensues when Macon hires dog trainer Muriel (Geena Davis) to discipline his son's unruly pet, but just as it seems his life has found a new course, Macon receives the news that Sarah wants him back. In 'All the President's Men' (1976), Washington Post reporters Carl Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman) and Bob Woodward (Robert Redford), aided by the White House mole 'Deep Throat', thwart Nixon's attempted cover up after his agents are caught breaking in to the Watergate complex. In 'Bonfire of the Vanities' (1990), financial trader Sherman McCoy (Tom Hanks) runs over a poor black person, nearly fatally, while driving with his mistress (Melanie Griffith) through the Bronx. When drunken hack Peter Fallow (Bruce Willis) gets the story, McCoy becomes the central character in a tale of political and racial scandal that paints a social tableau of Manhattan with a very broad brush.
