Natalie Merchant got her start at age 17 as the lead singer of the folk-pop group 10,000 Maniacs. After years of critical success in the 80s Merchant decided to go solo in 1994. Since then her popularity has bloomed in the wake of the albums 'Tigerlily', 'Ophilia', 'Motherland', 'Live in Concert' and 'The House Carpenter's Daughter'. This release is part of the series by VH1 where artists play their music and tell the stories behind the hits. It was filmed at the Manhattan Center in New York.
