Description

Most Mario Bros games have some sort of spin on the series' signature platforming MO. You're jumping around a galaxy of tiny planets, you're playing with your pals, there's a Vacation theme, everything's super retro, or everything's just super hard. But Super Mario Bros. Wonder is just... EVERYTHING. The whole game is a bounty of imaginative new Mario concepts. Every level is its own new spin on tight sidescrolling platform-hopping. Giant purple cows bowl down opponents. Waterfalls allow you to swim vertically onto cloud platforms. You're precariously riding a giant tumbling snowball! You're on a skydiving space walk. In the hands of a lesser game developer, any one of the levels in Super Mario Bros. Wonder would probably have been an entire game, but in the hands of Nintendo they all swirl together in a treasure chest of imaginative levels. Power-ups abound, of course. Classics like the invincible star and fire flower are joined by joyful additions such as the trunk swinging Elephant Mario, Drill Mario, which lets you drill through surfaces to dodge obstacles and the bubble flower, which gives you the ability to trap foes in bubbles, turning them into coins in the process. But in a game that constantly turns its own core mechanics on their head, power-ups are almost by-the-by. Just jump in and wait for your eyes to pop out of your skull as Super Mario Bros. Wonder pulls out all the stops to dazzle you!
