William Wyler directs this 1930s feature adaptation of the classic novel by Emily Bront. The story follows the recounting of the story of Heathcliff (Laurence Olivier) and Cathy (Merle Oberon) as told by Ellen (Flora Robson), the housekeeper of Wuthering Heights. As a young boy living on the streets, Heathcliff (Rex Downing) is found and taken in by the kind Mr. Earnshaw (Cecil Kellaway). Although Mr. Earnshaw's son Hindley (Douglas Scott) takes an immediate disliking to the orphan boy, his daughter, Cathy (Sarita Wooten) and Heathcliff quickly form an unbreakable bond. Later in life, after Mr. Earnshaw's death, Hindley (Hugh Williams), now the man of the house, uses his power to ostracise Heathcliff and keep him away from his sister. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning one for Best Cinematography, Black and White.
