Description

Double bill of British sports documentaries. 'One Night in Turin' (2010) is based on the book 'Time Out' by Pete Davies. Released 20 years on from Italia '90, the film follows the England football team's run to the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup in Italy. It covers everything from David Platt's last-minute equaliser against Belgium in the second round to the heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to West Germany in the semi-final in Turin. The film features match highlights from the FIFA archives and previously unseen footage from inside the England camp. James Erskine directs the cricket documentary 'From the Ashes' (2011). The film chronicles the events of the 1981 Ashes series, often referred to as 'Botham's Ashes'. As rioting and discontent brought chaos to the streets of England, English cricket also teetered on the brink of disaster with bookmakers offering odds of 500-1 against an English win in the third test. But the match-winning audacity and flair of deposed England captain Ian Botham led to the sporting turnaround of the century as favourites Australia were unexpectedly defeated and The Ashes returned home.
