The story is told largely in a series of splendid photographs, the kaleidoscope scene viewed through the lens of talented photographer Denny Allen. Peter Joyce provides an informative narrative. Each of the chapters covers a different aspect of bushveld life. Among the focus subjects are lions and other hunting carnivores; the bigger herbivore prey species, which have their own defence mechanisms; those very large creatures, like elephant and rhino, which have few if any natural enemies; the smaller but equally fascinating animals of the region; the birds that grace the savannas and woodlands; the biomass background; and the sanctuaries themselves, most famous of which is the Kruger National Park.
