This text is about organization and management in public sector organizations. It is about how such organizations are structured, what people do in them, why people do what they do and how all of these things have chnaged over the years. How do we find out about such organizations?. Approaches to the study of public administration reflect different academic disciplines including economics, sociology, psychology and politics. Any examination of organization theory and its application will make extensive use of a variety of academic disciplines. These different disciplines will offer differing and often competing ideas which need to be examined, analyzed and criticized.;The study of public sector organizations is made all the more complex and thought - provoking because of the competition of ideas between different academic and political standpoints. Added to this is the input from those who actually practice administration or management, giving us a "real world" perpective. This essential input often gives us insider accounts of a world which, in a system where much work of government is conducted away from the public gaze, we are not normally privileged to see.
