A cast of non-professionals (including a young Matt Dillon) play a group of alienated teenagers, living in the 'white trash' wastelands of seventies suburban America. When the local youth club is threatened with demolition, the kids rise up in protest and the situation gradually turns into a mass riot. Co-writer Tim Hunter went on to make his name with 'River's Edge', a similarly raw study of disaffected youth in the eighties.
