A collection of two of Yasujiro Ozu's better known films. 'Record of a Tenement Gentleman' (1947) is set in post-war Japan and follows the story of
a young boy who is abandoned by his father and who develops a relationship with a local widower called Tane, who initially resists the child, but then comes to depend on him as much as he depends on her. 'Flavour of Green Tea Over Rice' (1952) is a delicate character study about a middle-aged couple who are bored of their lives in an arranged marriage and set about livening it up, the wife almost succumbing to the temptation of an affair.
