This recording presents symphonic works based on the famous Spanish dance 'La Follia', as used by Corelli, by two contemporary Italian composers: Carlo Pedini and Paolo Ugoletti. Carlo Pedini (born 1956) was self-taught till he took lessons from Franco Donatoni and Salvatore Sciarrino. From 1996 till 2003 he was artistic director of the Sagra Musicale Umbra, one of the oldest festivals in Europe. Here he presented world premieres of works by Philip Glass, Morricone and Brouwer. The works by Pedini and Ugoletti on the famous 'La Follia' theme are full of contrasts: eclectic, with occasional excursions into jazz and related popular music, they present a kaleidoscope of colours, complex dance rhythms and orchestral glitter. Played by the KLK String Orchestra conducted by Ferdinando Nazzaro. The composers provide their own liner notes in the booklet.
