LaurieLewis ARCA, MA, MFA attended art schools at Walthamstow, The Royal College inLondon, and the University of California, Motion Picture Division, UCLA. He madedocumentary films in the USA covering the Chicago Democratic Convention riotsand on Gun Control for Warren Beatty. In the UK he made a feature on the camera-makersGandolfi and concert films with Frank Zappa, The RollingStones and Ian Dury. As aphotojournalist he has worked in disaster zones covering earthquakes inKashmir, volcanic eruptions in Iceland, and has shot magazine features inNicaragua, South Africa, Russia, China, Indonesia, the Himalayas, France andthe USA. As artscorrespondent his work has appeared in TheSunday Times, the Sunday Telegraph,the Guardian, the Independent, and Rolling Stone, Time and Life magazines, focussing on classicalmusic, ballet, dance, rock'n'roll and jazz. Theportraits, made in the studio and more often on location, appear in collectionsin the V&A and the National Portrait Gallery, London, and the Htel deCrillon, Paris. Exhibitionsof Laurie's work have been held at the Royal Academy and the Photographers'Gallery in London, and at The Hankyu Gallery in Japan.
