Drama following the latter part of writer D.H. Lawrence's life, starring Ian McKellen. When his novel, 'The Rainbow', is banned, Lawrence (McKellen) and his wife, Frieda (Janet Suzman), leave England for the US, where he hopes his work will be better received. However, America is no more open-minded and the couple travel to Mexico and Italy in search of a country tolerant enough to house the author as he seeks to finish and publish his most controversial novel, 'Lady Chatterley's Lover'.
