Railway of hell - Reginald Burton

The author was a young captain in The Royal Norfolk Regiment when he was captured by the Japanese and sent to work on the Burma-Siam railway, which today epitomises one of the low points of twentieth century inhumanity.
This is his vivid account of the barbarism and hardship - forced labour, inadequate rations, virtually non-existent medical care - which became the POW's lot. There is much here that goes beyond normal comprehension - not least the fortitude, courage and lack of bitterness displayed by the author and his comrades.
