Maybe Dustborn shouldn't work. It's a weird mashup of comics, punk, narrative adventure gaming, rhythm-based action, baseball-bat-based action, big science fictional ideas and cosy chats about mental health. It's a strange one, for sure, but all the more loveable for it. You play as Pax, a pregnant con artist transporting important contraband across a dystopian USA riddled and divided by misinformation. You're travelling with a misfit group who, like you, got low-key superpowers when they were exposed to a blast of concentrated information. And you're posing as a punk band. It's a weird America that you're travelling across - JFK was never assassinated, Marilyn Monroe is referred to as Lady Justice and there are robots in bunny hats. Much of the game hinges on the narrative adventure style made famous by Telltale Games, with decisions you make steering the game's direction. It helps that Pax's ability is to literally change people's thoughts! Every now and then the game breaks out into a fight, though, and at the punk gigs you play you'll find yourself wrapped up in a rhythm action game. So, yes, it's weird. Or, in other words, the exact sort of idiosyncratic game that people are going to fall in love with!
