Description

Hayley Atwell and Rufus Sewell star in this two-part war drama. Ruth Gilmartin (Michelle Dockery) visits her mother Sally (Charlotte Rampling) in 1976 and discovers documents that claim her mother's real name is Eva Delectorskaya. When Ruth questions her about this, she reveals that she was born a Russian refugee and was recruited as a British spy during World War II. After escaping an attempt on her life, she set up a new home and identity in rural Cambridgeshire. Fearing she can never completely escape the powerful people who wanted her dead, Eva gets Ruth to contact her former spy master and lover Lucas Romer (Sewell) to find out if her location has been betrayed. Atwell portrays a younger Eva seen in flashback during her time as a spy.
