Forty-four years on from the death of her husband in the Nagasaki holocaust, an old woman is prompted to recall the past after a visit from her four grandchildren and an American-Japanese nephew (Richard Gere). As she tells her story she also chronicles the modern history of Japanese society, and comes to terms with the despair she still feels over the loss her beloved spouse. Directed by Akira Kurosawa ('Seven Samurai', 'Rashomon').
