Those of you with little patience for time-consuming storylines and briefings can get straight into the cockpit of a Spitfire or Hurricane, begin a flight over London, and just start shooting at whatever catches your eye. Those of you with a little more free time can take a journey through the history of the Second World War, giving yourself a history lesson along the way. In either game mode, the mechanics of the individual planes are unique, yet surprisingly accurate, although you won't be able to confirm this without flying them for yourself. Aside from manoeuvring and combat controls, camera controls are of equal importance. Your plane can be viewed both internally and externally, offering the player complete visibility of their surroundings. Battle of Britain has a quality about it that makes it appealing to a wider audience than usual for a flight simulator. After a little practice you should be ready for World War III at any time.
