Description

Gritty drama from director Stephen Frears set in Saigon during the end of the Vietnam war. Barbara Dean (Judi Dench), a bank worker, fights off the advances of co-workers and acquaintances, until she meets and falls in love with CIA worker Bob (Frederick Forrest). With the situation in Saigon deteriorating rapidly as the North Vietnamese step up their offensive in an attempt to finally capture the city, Bob tries unsuccessfully to warn his superiors of the danger. Barbara, meanwhile, caught in a city near to collapse and unable to spend enough time with Bob, becomes increasingly worried about the fate of her South Vietnamese colleagues unable to flee the city.
