Description

Swashbuckling pirate fun starring Tommy Lee Jones. This 1983 film became buried at the box office due to a cross-Atlantic title copyright snafu. An underground hit, it incorporates absolutely every pirate movie convention (bloodthirsty savages, desert islands, eye patches, the lot) and even does so believably. A gang of nasty cutthroats attack a south seas island and lay waste to the place, wounding Nathaniel Williamson, the resident missionary (Michael O'Keefe) and kidnapping his fiance (Jenny Seagrove) into the bargain. Nate's only hope of finding out where she is, is to forge an alliance with a crotchety old pirate called Bully Hayes (Tommy Lee Jones), making for hilarity and high drama.
