Alfred Hitchcock directs this early British espionage thriller. After having his death faked by British Intelligence, author Edgar Brodie (John Gielgud) is persuaded to take on a new identity and travel to Switzerland to act as a spy. Brodie is accompanied by the beautiful Elsa Carrington (Madeleine Carroll), who poses as his wife, while psychotic professional killer the General (Peter Lorre) makes up the party. The trio are charged with eliminating an enemy agent whose identity remains a mystery, and set off in pursuit of their prey across the Swiss Alps.
