Shadow Labyrinth could be the weirdest game of 2025 - a gritty reimagining gaming's least-storied character, Pac-Man. Yes, he's had plenty of hits, but he's never been bogged down by much of a plot. Or he wasn't, until that series of short animated films based on videogames that Amazon Prime put out, Secret Level. In it, Pac-Man was reimagined as a marooned warrior that kept abducting people so it could fight its way off a prison planet. Bandai Namco clearly saw potential in the idea, because Shadow Labyrinth picks it up with Pac-Man (now known as 'Puck') waking Swordsman No. 8 on a mysterious planet amidst the wreckage of the world's ancient wars. What follows is an action platformer with a lot of metroidvania elements that has you uncovering the secrets of this strange world. You play as the Swordsman, hacking, slashing and leaping your way through the world's twists and turns, and occasionally launching Puck at unsuspecting foes. Every now and then you'll also turn into Puck, gobbling up dots as you scale walls in a way that you'll no doubt find familiar. It's an odd reinvention of Pac-Man, to be sure, but there's lots of meat for metroidvania fans to chomp their way through.
