Rachel Wynberg is an academic, an activist, and a policy advisor based in the Environmental Evaluation Unit in the department of environmental and geographical science at the University of Cape Town, where she is associate professor. She is actively involved in southern Africa's NGO community. Her research is focused on biopolitics, biodiversity use and benefit sharing, community rights, social justice, and environmental governance. She is the coeditor of Governance for Justice and Environmental Sustainability: Lessons Across Nature Resource Sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa. Maria Hauck conducts research into illegal fishing, compliance, and comanagement arrangements at the environmental evaluation unit at the University of Cape Town. She is the coeditor of Waves of Change.
