SEGA has been raiding its vaults for classic IP to revisit recently, and Shinobi is nothing if not a classic. Art of Vengeance goes back to the series' action platforming roots, but brings them up to date with some light metroidvania elements. It comes from developer Lizardcube, which handled the recent-ish Streets of Rage revival, so we're in safe hands here. You play as the legendary Shinobi Joe Musashi who, upon finding his village burned down and his clan turned to stone, starts hacking and slashing a bloody swathe of vengeance across a world of magical dungeons, scorching deserts and high tech military bases. It's more story-focused than you might think, with Lizardcube going above and beyond to put some meat on the bone, but the finely balanced mix of platforming and combat is what you'll really be showing up for. As you progress you'll pick up new abilities via collectible amulets, and levels are carefully pitched to give you chance to push those abilities to their limits. There's some real knife-edge platforming in the mix, and it's all delivered in a really fluid hand-drawn art style. Fans new and old are in for a real treat!
