1947. Miquel Mascarell, the last policeman from Republican Barcelona, is set free after being pardoned from a death sentence and having spent the last several years of his life in the Valley of the Fallen. Once back home in a city that is almost unrecognizeable and in which he has nothing and no one left, he receives a mysterious envelope with a photograph, money, and an address, which his policeman's instinct can't ignore. Over the course of a week, he discovers the new paths that the dictatorship is getting mixed up in, both in Barcelona and in Spain in general: the black market and its great riches that flourishes among the victors; the hunger and poverty still burying the defeated.
