Retro alien baddies descend down your Nintendo DS, bringing with them heat and nostalgia dolled up for the modern age of gaming - that's Space Invaders Extreme 2.
As the name suggests, this is the sequel to Taito and Square Enix's initial PSP and DS game from 2008. This time around, however, the graphics have been have become even more weird and, of course, wonderful.
So, what to expect? Well, it's a little more complicated than the Taito cabinet original. This time around, if you shoot the same coloured aliens, you'll get a bonus weapon to be used against those self same foes. You'll also be racking up the points at double-quick speed in comparison to the original given that Square has touched up the scoring system this time around.
There is also a method by which you have to be incredibly selective about what you shoot. For example, the upper screen may contain a green square with a
blue middle. This means that you've got to destroy four green aliens and then four blue ones. Sound easy? Not when the baddies are storming at you, and one mistaken colour in the sequence means that your score counter is reset.
The Special games from the first version also make a reappearance but this time instead of having to take out the mothership in order to instigate the Special, the Special blends with the main game.
All this comes with online multiplayer and leaderboards.
