High on Life 2 is a high-energy bit of business. While no-one really cares for the word zany it is, in fact, pretty zany. It's a massively over-the-top sci-fi first person shooter built on top of... skateboarding mechanics. It probably shouldn't work, and yet... it does? It follows on from (you guessed it) the first High on Life, with your protagonist having shot to fame after taking down the G3 cartel, which was in the business of turning humans into drugs. The fame is getting to you, but don't worry - a drug manufacturer called Rhea Pharmaceutical is trying to get humans reclassified into a legal drug, so you have work to do. That work is, mainly, zipping around the place on a skateboard, combining platforming with the frenetic shooting of lots and lots of aliens as you take down dodgy politicians, mad scientists and everyone's favourite villains, billionaires. If skating and shooting seem like a tricky combo, don't worry. Developer Squanch Games has simplified skating down into ollies, grinds and wall rides, adding in familiar moves like a double-jump and an air-dash. It makes for some incredibly acrobatic combat as well as the satisfying opportunity to ollie into an enemy's face. It's all wrapped up in some extremely colourful world building and Squanch Games' signature goofy sense of humour (your main companions, for example, are talking weapons). This is big, madcap stuff for the action lovers out there.
