Description

Documentary retracing the journey to the Sea of Cortez by novelist John Steinbeck and his friend the marine biologist Ed Ricketts. Setting off in March of 1940, Steinbeck, his wife Carol and Ricketts sought to document the marine life living within the Gulf of California between the Baja California Peninsula and the Mexican mainland. Maintaining a journal of the expedition, Steinbeck and Ricketts published their findings after their return and it became much more than a mere document of the marine life of the location but also revealed the two men's philosophies regarding the human relationship to the environment.
