Brickwork has long been regarded as an attractive cladding material and blockwork is increasing in its appeal. Both are durable materials with good thermal and acoustic insulation and fire resistance. What's more, both are economical structural materials that can often be used to build faster and more cheaply and more easily than steel or concrete frameworks. Since the first edition was published over a decade ago, this major handbook has made a considerable contribution to increasing the awareness and potential of structural masonry. It covers the main structural elements and forms of brick and blockwork, the application of reinforcing and post–tensioning, and includes a number of the authors own structural developments.
