Description

The first Bubble Bobble arcade game is the subject of many a fond memory for the ...*ahem*... more mature gamer. It was followed by three games claiming to be Bubble Bobble 2 and has spawned one of the more complicated family trees in gaming, and the reason that it keeps coming back is that, well, it's just a great formula. Interestingly, Bubble Bobble 4 has been made by the original developer behind the series, Taito, which was bought by Square Enix back in 2006 to all but disappear. Because of that it hews pretty close to the first Bubble Bobble (which, by the way, is included in this package as a little bonus) in that you and up to three friends (in couch co-op) jump into a tight 2D platform arena and attempt to kill everything in sight. You're a dragon, but your preferred breath-based weapon is the trusty bubble, which you'll trap enemies in before you pop the bubble to dispatch them once and for all. You can also blow bubbles to use as platforms, and you can pick up skills by winning boss battles such as extending the range of your bubbles or having them explode after a certain amount of time. As the bit after the title's colon suggests, this version pack's in an EXTRA bit of extra content: the inclusion of Baron von Blubba! In short, this is a return to the glory days of the old arcade game, but played out on a platform that you can take with you anywhere!
