Like all the best Terminator films, Terminator 2D: NO FATE is an attempt to go back in time to redo the past. The Terminator franchise wasn't, it's fair to say, all that well serviced by videogame adaptations in its 90s heyday. No Fate looks to fix all that. It's a love letter not only to Terminator 2, but also to the 16 bit era that spawned some sub-par Terminator games. In case you've somehow got within reach of T2's future without actually seeing the legendary film, the story goes like this: in the future (2029), mankind has been all but eradicated by an army of murderous robots, and all that stands in their way is the leader of the resistance, John Conner. Hoping to nip this problem in the bud, the machines send the liquid metal T-1000 back in time to murder Conner when he's still a boy in the 1990s. The only thing standing in the T1000's way is ANOTHER terminator, the outclassed T-800, aka the iconic leather-clad Arnie. Terminator 2D: NO FATE tells the story of the film, nipping between characters for a 2D run-and-gun that's a loving celebration of the 16 bit era. Along with the iconic source material, there are new scenes thrown into the mix, and even a multiple endings you can hit. It's heartpounding stuff, and a real nostalgic blast from the past (and the future!) No need to discuss how timely a game about the rise of the machines feels...
