Description

All the episodes from the Channel 4 series chronicling the history of the battleship are gathered together here. Born out of the industrial revolution, the battleship became the prime naval force in the nineteenth and early twentieth century, with its ever-improving firepower and armaments. The British dreadnought dominated the waves in the First World War, but by the time of the second global conflict the advent of the U-boat and the primacy of aerial forces meant that the vessel's days were numbered. Despite playing an important roles in the Korean, Vietnam and Gulf wars, today no battleships are commissioned in any of the world's navies.
