British television drama starring Eddie Marsan and George MacKay that tells the story of the origins of the Paralympic Games. When Dr Ludwig Guttmann (Marsan), a medical professional in flight from Nazi Germany, arrives at Stoke Mandeville hospital in 1944 he is appalled when he learns that the disabled soldiers in the wards have been written off and given very little activity to keep them stimulated. With his brusque and uncompromising manner, Ludwig sets about devising a programme of sports and other activities that the men can take part in - transforming the lives of his patients.
