Three films set in the 'West that never was', starring the singing cowboy, Gene Autry. In 'Riders of the Whistling Pines' (1949), bad guys Henry (Douglas Dumbrille), Bill (Damian O'Flynn) and Pete (Clayton Moore) head a gang of outlaws who are destroying the timberland. When Gene butts in they frame him on a cattle-poisoning charge and set him up for murder. In 'The Old Corrall' (1936), a naive showgirl (Irene Manning) witnesses a brutal mob slaying in Chicago, forcing her to run out west in an attempt to hide from the gangsters who want her silenced. Betrayed to the mobsters by an unscrupulous saloon owner, the young woman's only salvation is Sheriff Gene Autry, who has resolved to save the girl and bring the killers to justice. In 'In Old Santa Fe' (1934), Autry makes his debut appearance as a guest singer. The film tells of big city gangsters who arrive at a dude ranch and cause untold trouble for ranch hand Kentucky (Ken Maynard). He loses his horse Tarzan in a rigged horserace and then gets framed for murder.
