Robert Rae directs this drama telling the story of the Fife mining community's fight for better conditions during the General Strike of 1926. Employing amateur cast members from the actual communities involved, the film follows the struggles of three families as they try to survive the dark days of the strike. Taking a stand against the threat of lower pay, longer hours and savage austerity cuts by the government, the miners and their families face imprisonment, starvation and eviction as they battle against the brutality of the police and army to defend their rights.
