Triple bill of films starring silver screen icon, John Barrymore. In 'The Beloved Rogue' (1927), Barrymore plays renowned poet, ardent patriot, and notorious carouser, Francois Villon. In exile after insulting Duke Charles of Burgundy (Lawson Butt), Francois looks for ways to protect France from Burgundy's plots. When Charles plans to have one of his cronies marry Charlotte (Marceline Day), a ward of Louis XI (Conrad Veidt), Villon has to find a way of scuppering the Duke's plans. In the 1920 adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde', Barrymore takes on the dual roles of the doctor and his fiendish alter ego. Finally, in 'Svengali' (1932), based on George Louis DuMaurier's novel, 'Trilby', Barrymore is the titular music maestro who controls the fate of a young singer (Marian Marsh) through his use of hypnotism.
