Description

Part of the documentary series looking at the history of the English and British monarchy. This volume examines the period between 1714 and 1837, when the Hanoverian line occupied the throne. Of German extraction, George I became king without being able to speak English, but his monarchical line presided over a sustained period of economic and imperial growth and political stability in Britain. George III, despite a period of mental illness, reigned for 60 years, and by the time Victoria became queen in 1837 the monarchy was in an exceptionally stable state. Historian Alan Ereira provides exeprt analysis, while dramatic reconstructions illustrate the key events of this period.
