Classic Shirley Temple drama. Temple plays young Sara Crewe, sent to boarding school by her rich and patriotic father (Ian Hunter) so he can enlist and fight in the Boer War. When he is reported killed in the fighting however, leaving Sara penniless, the school's headmistress (Mary Nash) starts treating Sara like a slave. Unable to believe her father is dead, Sara braves the cold streets of Victorian London to search for him in the military hospitals.
