Philip Elmsmore narrates the tragic story of the Scharnhorst, the first of Germany's large warships to be manufactured since 1918. Along with her sister ship, the Gneisenau, the Scharnhorst was deployed in the 1942 channel breakthrough. However, in December 1943 the ship was sunk after battling the British Navy, with only 36 men surviving out of a crew of 1,968.
